Falcons Hire Former Rams DC Raheem Morris as New Head Coach
Morris Has Won Two Super Bowls and Brings High Expectations to Atlanta

Atlanta’s New Chapter 🦾
In a somewhat surprising turn of events, the Atlanta Falcons decided against hiring Bill Belichick as head coach and instead made NFL news by hiring Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

This is a bit of a homecoming for Morris as he was the NFL team’s interim head coach in 2020. While I think Morris is a very good coach and a great defensive mind, I do have concerns about him being a head coach. He was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011 and went 17-31 in NFL games.
Now, that was over a decade ago and there’s no doubt he’s learned a lot. Perhaps this was a stroke of genius but it’s pivotal that he finds a quarterback and a great offensive coordinator. The Falcons have offensive weapons for days.
Kyle Pitts and Drake London are massive targets who were underutilized by former head coach Arthur Smith. OROY candidate Bijan Robinson can be the best running back in the NFL with the right play-caller.
NFL rumors suggest that Rams passing game coordinator Cam Robinson will be Morris’ offensive coordinator and I think that could be a home run. If the Falcons get a good quarterback and hire Robinson, I think they could be good quickly. However, I don’t think Morris will be good enough to overcome lackluster quarterback play.
Thank you Raheem Morris.

There’s a reason teams are favoring offensive-minded coaches for head coaching jobs. It’s easier to find a great defensive coordinator to run a defense than it is to find an elite offensive coordinator who will stay for multiple seasons. A great quarterback helps overcome that, which is why it’s paramount that the Falcons find one.
2015-2019, new #Falcons HC Raheem Morris was Atlanta’s assistant HC and pass game coordinator.
During that stretch, future HOF QB #MattRyan AVERAGED 4,954 yards, 30 TD passes every 17-games.

Easier said than done, but they’re going to have to take some big swings. Overall, I see the appeal of Morris. NFL players love him and he already has ties to the franchise. That said, I do feel like there were better hires out there. Why not go with Mike Vrabel who is also defensive-minded but has a better track record? Or why not take a swing on Ben Johnson or Bobby Slowik?
I’m rooting for Morris, but I feel like he’s one of the more questionable hires of this cycle considering the options out there.
I am going to value Mike Tomlin’s opinion of Raheem Morris more than the opinion of some of you “fans.” Respectfully….
