Now, Villa head back to Birmingham for the second leg next week with a good chance to advance.
For now, all of Unai Emery’s focus will be on Sunday’s match, which is a crucial one for Aston Villa. Villa can go eight points clear of Tottenham with a win and it would signify one giant leap towards Champions League football. Ollie Watkins was quiet at Ajax on Thursday but he’s been key for Aston Villa this season.
He’s second among the EPL goal leaders, with 16 goals and he’s joint-leader in assists with 10. With 26 goal contributions, no Premier League player has been involved in more goals than Watkins this season.
