Favorite Teams for La Liga Matchday 35: Barcelona Seal La Liga Title

Only Five Points Separate 13th and 18th Place, Who Stands Tall?

Barcelona Seal La Liga Title

FC Barcelona won their first La Liga championship since 2019 on Sunday by defeating rivals Espanyol 4-2. While Barcelona doesn’t need any more points this season, they can still break the record for the fewest goals conceded in a La Liga season. Meanwhile, just five points separate 13th-place Celta Vigo and 18th-place Getafe with four games left. In one of the closest relegation battles in recent memory, there’s still a lot to be decided. We’ll take a look at the most important matches of the week and the favorite teams for La Liga Matchday 35.

Games of the Week:

Location: Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla
Day/Time:

Both level on 35 points heading into the weekend, Cadiz and Valladolid are 16th and 17th in the Spanish La Liga standings. They’re just one point ahead of 18th-placed Getafe, who occupy the final relegation spot. Valladolid has lost four straight matches and only already-relegated Elche have conceded more goals than them this season. Meanwhile, Cadiz has scored the joint-fewest goals in the league. Cadiz is a favorite when the struggling sides meet on Friday.

Cadiz is +120 ATS and moneyline favorites and they won the reverse fixture 1-0. They’re also unbeaten in the last five matches between these sides. None of the last seven meetings have finished with more than two goals and under 2.5 goals display -135 odds here. Valladolid has kept just one shutout in their last 13 matches, while Cadiz’s defense has been a fair bit better. They’ve conceded multiple goals in just two of their last seven matches. Plus, forward Roger Marti could return from injury in time for this match.

Meanwhile, Valladolid +0.5 shows -140 odds but they hold just a 3-2-12 record on the road in 2022-23. Valladolid, who have scored just twice in the last five head-to-head matchups, are +245 underdogs. If Getafe wins vs Elche this weekend and this match finishes in a draw, Valladolid will finish the Matchday in the relegation zone. A draw is currently priced at +230 odds for Friday’s key match.

GIRGirona vs VillarealVILL

Location: Montilivi
Day/Time:

With four matches to go in the La Liga season, Villareal still has their Champions League hopes alive. Quique Setien’s side is in fifth place, five points behind Real Sociedad for the last UCL berth. They’ll take on Girona on Saturday, who are in line to make their first-ever appearance in a UEFA competition. If the season ended today, seventh-placed Girona would qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference league. They’re unbeaten in their last four matches but have dropped their last four matches vs Villarreal.

Villarreal is one of the favorite teams for La Liga Matchday 35, at +130 moneyline odds. They’re also unbeaten in their last four matches and are coming off a resounding 5-1 win over Athletic Club. Alex Baena and Nicolas Jackson both scored twice for Villarreal and Jackson has found the net in the last four matches. With six goals during that span and nine for the season, Jackson is now Villarreal’s leading scorer. While Jackson is available for Saturday’s match, defender Pau Torres and midfielder Dani Parejo are suspended.

At the same time, Girona will be missing midfielders, Oriol Romeu and Aleix Garcia. Star striker Valentin Castellanos could return from a sprained ankle come Saturday. In this pick’em, hosts Girona display +120 odds to cover and Villarreal pk comes in at -140 odds. Girona has been one of the best home teams in the league this season, at 10-3-4, but are +185 moneyline favorites here. Over the last four meetings, Villarreal has outscored Girona 6-0 but a draw stands at +280 odds. Girona have scored at least twice in each of their last four matches but under three goals show -125 odds here.

BARBarcelona vs Real SociedadRSO

Location: Camp Nou
Day/Time:

With a 4-2 win over local rivals Espanyol, Xavi’s Barcelona clinched the La Liga title with four games to spare. They’ve conceded just 13 goals in 34 games and can still concede a goal per game from here on out and break the record for the fewest goals conceded in a La Liga season. On Saturday, Barcelona host Real Sociedad on the Matchday 35 La Liga schedule. Sociedad are unbeaten in their last five matches and have scored twice in their last three games.

Although fourth-placed Sociedad are in good form, they’ve struggled against Barcelona in recent times. The Txuri-Urdin are winless in the last 17 meetings between these sides and haven’t won at Camp Nou since 1991. With Barcelona’s title already sealed, this could be an excellent opportunity for Sociedad to break the streak. They’re only five points ahead of Villarreal in the UCL race and a win would go a long way here. Still, Real Sociedad is +345 underdogs and Sociedad +0.5 sits at +110 odds. Barcelona, on the other hand, has a mostly healthy squad but Gavi is suspended.

It remains to be seen whether Xavi will rotate his squad, but Barcelona sits at -130 ATS and moneyline odds regardless. Although Barcelona have no incentive to win more games this season, this is the first opportunity for them to celebrate their La Liga win in front of their home fans. So, don’t expect Barcelona to pack it in here. For Saturday’s match, a draw is priced at +285 odds but Barcelona has won the last five meetings. Both over and under 2.5 goals come in at -110.

VCFValencia vs Real MadridRMA

Location: Mestalla
Day/Time:

Valencia are doing their best to avoid relegation. They’ve won three of their last five matches to escape the drop zone but are still just three points clear. On Sunday, Valencia hosts a Real Madrid side that has already clinched a Champions League berth for next season. Come Wednesday afternoon, we’ll also know if Real will play in a second straight Champions League final. Their second-leg Semifinals match vs Manchester City is one of the biggest of the season and the score is level at one heading into it.

Although Wednesday promises to be a draining match, Real is still one of the favorite teams for La Liga Matchday 35. They come in at +125 ATS and moneyline odds but Carlo Ancelotti could very well give some of his star players a break during a congested fixture period. Valencia needs to go all out to stay clear of the relegation zone but will be missing two players in this one. Defenders Mouctar Diakhaby and Gabriel Paulista are suspended as Valencia +0.5 shows -145 odds and the hosts are +200 underdogs.

Real has won six of the last eight meetings and a draw displays +270 odds. Los Blancos won the reverse fixture 2-0 as Marco Asensio and Vinicius Jr. both found the back of the net. Asensio also scored the winner vs Getafe last Saturday and has done well when called upon this season. Real have averaged over two goals per game in their last five matches and over 2.5 goals come in at -125 odds.
