PSG vs Rennes Head-to-Head

Not many French teams have been able to go toe-to-toe with PSG in recent seasons. Rennes are one of the select few, as they have four 90-minute wins over the last 10 meetings overall. Rennes completed the double over PSG last season, with a 1-0 home win and a 2-0 result on the road.

These teams last met in October 2023 and PSG won 3-1 on the road. The PSG vs Rennes Ligue 1 odds listed PSG as -120 pregame favorites. Over the last 10 meetings, both teams have won four games and two have finished in draws.

PSG on Long Unbeaten Run

Paris Saint-Germain extended their unbeaten run to 18 matches on Saturday, in all competitions. Kylian Mbappe started on the bench at Nantes but it didn’t matter as the Parisians picked up a 2-0 win.

Lucas Hernandez scored his first Ligue 1 goal for PSG, when his shot took a gnarly deflection off Nantes’ Moussa Sissoko. Less than 20 minutes after Mbappe came on as a substitute, he won a penalty.

Mbappe scored his 21st goal of the Ligue 1 season when he converted and he ranks first in goals in the Ligue 1 player stats. Rumors are swirling about Mbappe’s future, which seems to lie away from Paris and Ligue 1. Still, he can still deliver Paris Saint-Germain another Ligue 1 title and their first Champions League crown.

Currently, the Ligue 1 odds price PSG as -25000 favorites to win Ligue 1 for a third straight season. PSG hold a 13 point lead over second-placed Brest with 12 games to go. They also hold a two goal lead heading into the second leg of the UCL round of 16 vs Real Sociedad.

While PSG have quite a few attacking weapons alongside Mbappe, a few of Luis Enrique’s defenders are out injured. Nuno Mendes and Presnel Kimpembe still haven’t played this season, while Milan Skriniar could be out for another few weeks.

Mbappe, Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha, Achraf Hakimi, Marco Asensio and Bradley Barcola have all managed to contribute to five or more Ligue 1 goals this season.

Rennes Fall Short vs AC Milan

Rennes needed to overturn a three goal deficit vs AC Milan on Thursday to advance to the Europa League round of 16. That proved to be a tall task, as Rennes could only manage to pull one goal back.

Benjamin Bourigeaud scored a hat trick in Rennes’ 3-2 victory but they fell 5-3, on aggregate. Still, Rennes have lost just one of their last 12 matches, in all competitions, and have been in stellar form under Julien Stephan.

Last weekend, Rennes were too much to handle for Clermont as SRFC picked up a 3-1 win in Ligue 1. Martin Terrier was on the scoresheet twice for Rennes and he’s scored five goals in his last four Ligue 1 matches.

Bourigeaud is also tied for eighth in the Ligue 1 stats with six goals. Only Monaco and PSG have scored more league goals this season than Rennes, who have a number of creative players.

This Sunday, bettors should be aware that midfielder Azor Matusiwa is suspended. Enzo Le Fee is also out with a hamstring injury. With wins in their last six Ligue 1 games, Rennes won’t be remotely intimidated by the prospect of facing PSG. However, two days of rest could prove somewhat problematic.

Match Analysis & Odds

Paris Saint-Germain haven’t gotten complacent in Ligue 1 yet and their long unbeaten run speaks to that. Luis Enrique is a demanding coach and Mbappe is the only irreplaceable player in the squad.

So, healthy competition for places has been a good thing for the Parisians this season. Sunday’s PSG vs Rennes Ligue 1 odds list the hosts PSG as -215 favorites vs a Rennes side that’s been playing excellent football.

Rennes (+600) are unbeaten in their last four road games but all of those matches were vs bottom half opposition. Rennes did defeat PSG at the Parc des Princes last season, though, and this is a more important match for the visitors than PSG, who have a 13-point Ligue 1 cushion. Bettors can take a draw at +380 odds while PSG -1, -1.5 comes in at -110 odds.

Rennes +1, +1.5 is priced at -120 odds and they could keep this one close but all of their key players played big minutes on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mbappe rested for PSG for most of last Saturday’s match and he’ll be ready to run the Rennes defense ragged. Although both sides are high scoring outfits, under three goals display -120 odds here.
