Giants vs Jays Match-Up Analysis: In-Depth Match-Up Preview

Giants Winners of Four Straight Series; 2.5 Back of Arizona in NL West

Our Giants vs Jays matchup analysis starts with a review of a baseball betting strategy that we have used for a long time and it appears that this series is ripe for another win. Teams with the higher percentage of moneyline wagers are 664-487 (.577), but that’s not good enough to produce a profit (-2615 units).

The key is to find solid plus-money teams that you can ride during a series until they hand you a winner. We suspect the Giants will fit that theory nicely in game one. Let’s continue our Giants vs Jays matchup analysis by spotlighting both teams followed by our official selection.

Don’t Sleep On Bullpen Game Teams

Editorial Update 6/27/2023, 11.00 AM ET: The San Francisco Giants will be sending Ryan Walker to the mound while Toronto counters with Kevin Gausman. Walker comes in with a record of 2-0 and a 1.89 ERA, while Gausman has posted a 7-3 record with an ERA of 3.10.

Odds Update For Tuesday’s Game, 6/27/2023: (ML Giants +145, Blue Jays -165) (RL Giants +1.5 -135, Blue Jays -1.5 +115), Over/Under 8 -120/EV

San Francisco owns the National League’s third-best bullpen, anchored by the NL’s top closer Camilo Doval (22 saves in 24 opportunities). Set-up extraordinaire Tyler Rogers has 16 holds and has paved the way for the Giants to lead Major League Baseball with 30 team saves in 40 chances. San Francisco relievers have allowed just 291 hits in 328 total innings.

The point is, on most nights, even when the Giants’ starter may not give manager Gabe Kapler a quality start, bettors know that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be ripping up a ticket. Overall this MLB season, bettors have enjoyed 702 units of profit when putting their money behind San Francisco. Only five other MLB teams have a better record. Let’s move our Giants vs Jays matchup analysis spotlight over to Toronto.

Jays Take Step Up in Competition

The Toronto Blue Jays took two of three games from the Oakland Athletics at home over the weekend, with bettors still smarting from Toronto’s opening game loss Friday at a -300 favorite. This a prime example as to why we don’t lay massive numbers.

The Jays outscored Oakland 23-9 in the three-game series, but we got out of the series after game one – after a huge plus-money winner. That’s the same theory we’re going to use to get a win in game one of the Jays, Giants three-game set.

John Schneider’s team will not catch Tampa Bay for the top spot in the American League East (10 games behind) but Toronto does currently occupy a wild-card spot by 0.5 over the Houston Astros who are starting a winnable series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Toronto is 43-36, but that hasn’t been enough to overcome large money lines (-356 units). Kevin Gausman (7-3, 3.10) will make his 17th start of the season. The Jays are 10-6 when Gausman gets the ball after starting the season 4-6.

There is some concern with the Jays’ run support for Gausman, averaging just 3.55 runs per game, but in nine of his starts, Toronto has given the former LSU star under less than three runs. That might be a problem when facing a Giants team who is 8th in Major League Baseball in runs scored (386). Let’s conclude our Giants vs Jays matchup analysis with our official selection.

Giants Thrive in Underdog Role

If you’ve been following closely this season, you would know that there is no better team to bet on when on the road than the San Francisco Giants. With a 24-15 record away from the bay, San Francisco has given bettors +1206 units of profit, tops in all of baseball. The Giants vs Jays matchup is anticipated to be a thrilling clash between two powerhouse teams vying for supremacy.

The Cincinnati Reds are a distant second (+812 units). Outside of a horrible 2022 (18-41, -1749 units), bettors know that San Francisco has been historically terrific on the road with 3177 units of profit, 1545 units better than the Tampa Bay Rays (+1632).

We’re going to take the plus money and back the Giants in game one. We suggest betting on the Giants until they produce a win. They’ll likely be a dog in the first two games, where a win in either game would produce a profit. That does it for our Giants vs Jays matchup analysis, we wish your wagers the best this week.
