NLWC Game Two: Diamondbacks vs Brewers

Arizona Drew First Blood Behind Christian Walker’s 3-4, 2 RBI, Game One

The Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitching finished 18th in Major League Baseball this season with a team ERA of 4.22. In game one they showed that their bullpen is more than capable of carrying the Snakes when needed. Six Arizona relievers combined to allow no runs and five hits in 6.1 innings, to help preserve a 6-3, game one victory. Tonight’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:08 pm ET / 4:08 pm PT and can be seen on ESPN 2. Snakes ace Zac Gallen (17-9, 3.47 era) gets the start against Freddy Peralta (12-10, 3.86 era) for the Brewers. Let’s start our Diamondbacks vs Brewers odds preview starting with Arizona.

Gallen Getting Hot At The Right Time

Zac Gallen wasn’t great down the stretch if you take his numbers from the month of September (3-3, 4.17 era), but it was his last two starts that have Diamondback fans confident that the Snakes will make a clean sweep of Milwaukee.

Over his last two starts against the Houston Astros and New York Yankees, the righty allowed just two runs in 12.1 innings. His strikeout-to-walk ratio was 3-1 (15 K, 3BB). Above all, ‘Milkman’ hasn’t pitched more than six innings since September 8th against the Chicago Cubs when he threw a nine-inning shutout in a 1-0 Arizona victory.

From a betting perspective, MLB line history shows Arizona still in the red after their game-one win with 1.87 units lost (7-10 record) since 2007, and -0.88 units since 2017 (2-3 record). It was Arizona’s fourth win against nine losses as an under in their last 13 playoff games, improving their record to 2-7 as a road dog in that span.

This will be Gallen’s first start in the postseason. Still, the former North Carolina Tar Heel has had plenty of success against the Brewers with a 1.75 era, including a perfect 2-0 mark against Milwaukee this season while allowing just one run in 14 innings.

His record in his career is just 3-3 against Milwaukee, leaving bettors with one question, will Gallen get the run support that has been lacking at times against Brewers in his career? Let’s turn our Diamondbacks vs Brewers odds preview spotlight over to the Brew Crew.

Peralta Moves Up to Keep Season Alive

MLB scores don’t always tell the complete story, a sentiment that could be used to describe the Brewers’ loss in game one. With 12 hits and 11 left on base, Milwaukee has plenty of reason to feel optimistic heading into game two. It was a matter of not being able to get the hit that would deliver a knockout blow.

The Brewers were 3-11 with runners in scoring position, washed down with 11 strikeouts. To the rescue is Freddy Peralta who will start game two after it was announced that Brandon Woodruff would not be available to pitch in the wild-card round. In his career, the right hander is 0-0 in the postseason with just eight innings of experience, allowing four hits and just one earned run.

‘Kaciki’ does have 12 strikeouts in those eight innings. In 2021, Peralta got his lone postseason start against the Atlanta Braves, a 3-0 loss, but the all-star threw a perfect four innings of shutout baseball. Don’t count out Milwaukee yet. We conclude our Diamondbacks vs Brewers odds preview with our official game two selection.

The Betting Public Has This Right

The opening send-out number had the Milwaukee Brewers as a -126 home favorite, a number that received large money which pushed it up to -132. The total remains solid at 7.5 (under -120). The general public is on the Arizona Diamondbacks with 57% of the money, but the books will always move numbers according to respected bettors or syndicates.

As for us, we’re taking a conservative approach by putting our cash behind the Diamondbacks but we’re going to grab the run-line (-192). This number is usually not one we like to involve ourselves with, but the regular season allowed us to take some chances.

We think this will be a one-run game and our goal is to cash a ticket. We suspect that the Snakes will be moving on to the next part of the MLB schedule. That does it for our Diamondbacks vs Brewers odds preview, we wish you the best with your wagers tonight.
