College Football Transfers Update: Big Names Nearly All Gone

New Players Impressing New Teams in Summer Workouts

The college football transfers update shows that nearly all big-name players have signed with their new schools. Several players signed with new schools recently, electing to take some time and think things over before committing to a new location. The last few weeks saw some talented players finally decide where to attend.

Rebels logo Zakhari Franklin, WR, Ole Miss

Franklin waited until June before deciding to attend Ole Miss. He ended his time with the UTSA Roadrunners in outstanding fashion. In 2022, Franklin caught 93 passes for 1,193 yards and 15 touchdowns. Franklin gives the Rebels an instant threat from the wideout position. Ole Miss has to replace its top two receivers from last year, and Franklin is a natural fit.

Seminoles logo Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State

The NCAAF stats show Coleman caught 58 passes for 798 yards and seven touchdowns for Michigan State last season but has packed his bags for Tallahassee to play for the Florida State Seminoles. He’s already made an impression on his new teammates, including quarterback Jordan Travis, who has commended his work ethic.

But while he has two years of eligibility left, Coleman has made it clear he plans to stay just one year before entering the NFL draft. The Seminoles’ NCAAF football schedule will ensure Coleman gets plenty of attention during the season.

Mustangs logo Jordan Hudson, WR, SMU

The college football transfer update is adding Hudson to the list, not for what he’s done, but for what he can do in the future. Hudson played one year for TCU as a true freshman, catching 14 passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns. The Mustangs had one of the best transfer classes, and Hudson adds to it.

Bearcats logo Xzavier Henderson, WR, Cincinnati Bearcats

Henderson left Florida for Cincinnati, and the Bearcats are getting a solid receiver. He had 38 receptions for 410 yards for the Gators in 2022. Because he entered the portal in the spring, he was ineligible to sign with another SEC school without losing eligibility in 2023. That was just fine with the Bearcats.

Sun Devils logo Jordyn Tyson, WR, Arizona State Sun Devils

Tyson was one of the many players who left Colorado and led the Buffaloes in receiving with 22 receptions for 470 yards and four touchdowns. He missed the last few games of the season with an injury. Tyson has played just one season of college football and has several years of eligibility remaining. He looks to be an excellent pickup for the Sun Devils.

Owls logoCasey Thompson, QB, FAU Owls

Thompson has bounced around college football a bit and has struggled to stay healthy. He had injury-plagued seasons at Texas and Nebraska. While Auburn had Thompson on their want list, he elected to play for the Owls. Despite his injuries, Thompson has thrown for 41 touchdowns the last two seasons and could put up solid numbers at FAU.

Tigers logo Payton Thorne, QB, Auburn Tigers

Thorne is another player who took his time deciding where to transfer to before settling on the Auburn Tigers. It isn’t often that a top-notch program can land a starting quarterback, but the Tigers could have done just that. Thorne threw for 2,679 yards and 19 touchdowns for Michigan State last season.

Buffaloes logo Alton McCaskill, RB, Colorado Buffaloes

One thing is certain: the Colorado Buffaloes have been busy with the transfer portal, with players coming in and leaving. After missing all of last season with an injury, McCaskill elected to play for ‘Coach Prime’ and the BuffaloesBuffaloes after missing all of last season with an injury. As a freshman for Houston in 2021, he rushed for 981 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. If he’s healthy, he’s a good one and could play a big role for Colorado.

Rebels logo Isaac Ukwu, DE, Ole Miss

The college football transfer update has Ole Miss getting another solid transfer late in the game by picking up James Madison defensive end Isaac Ukwu. Last season, Ukwu recorded 40 total tackles and 7.5 sacks after putting up nine in 2021. The SEC is a big step up for Ukwu, but he’s shown solid fundamentals and could be a nice pick-up.

Tigers logo Cam’Ron Johnson, OL, Missouri Tigers

Johnson was one of the most coveted offensive linemen in the transfer portal this year. He took his time weighing offers from USC and Missouri before ultimately deciding on the Tigers. Southern Cal has the better program, but Johnson will reunite with his former offensive line coach Brandon Jones. He started all 13 games for the Houston Cougars last year and earned First Team All-American Athletic Conference honors.
