Jordan Dominate South Korea

Jordan entered Tuesday’s Semifinal match vs. South Korea as +600 underdogs. Right out of the gates, Jordan put pressure on Korea’s defense and were unphased by the occasion. Jordan absolutely looked like they belonged in their first-ever AFC Asian Cup Semifinal appearance. Yazan Al-Naimat was dribbling past Korean defenders with ease and it was the Al-Ahli man who got the opening goal for Jordan.

Musa Al-Taamari slipped Al-Naimat in with a clear through ball and Al-Naimat chipped the South Korea keeper. Al-Taamari doubled Jordan’s lead with a brilliant solo goal and Jordan never looked back. In the 2-0 upset victory, Jordan didn’t concede a single shot on target. Jordan have proven they can compete with anyone in the AFC Asian Cup and they can win their first major trophy on Saturday.

Jordan will get two players back from suspensions for the final. Defender Salem Al-Ajalin and forward Ali Olwan could both be in the lineup come Saturday. Al-Naimat has been one of the standout players of the tournament, with three goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Yazid Abu Layla is also joint-leader in shutouts with three in six matches. Currently, the Jordan vs Qatar odds price Jordan as +275 90-minute underdogs for their first AFC Asian Cup final.

Qatar Back in the Final

In a wild Semifinal match which featured five goals and a red card, Qatar finally ended their 10 match winless streak vs. Iran. The Maroons picked up an astounding 3-2 win in Doha, even as +400 soccer betting underdogs. Iran struck first, in the fourth minute, as Sardar Azmoun sent in an acrobatic shot which Meshaal Barsham could do nothing about. Qatar would equalize in the 17th minute when Jaseem Abdulsallam’s shot took a wicked deflection and went in.

Akram Afif followed up his assist with a brilliant solo goal that gave Qatar a 2-1 lead heading into halftime. Qatar would concede on a penalty early in the second half and they managed to keep things level until late on. Almoez Ali, Qatar’s all-time leading scorer, scored one of his most important goals for the national team in the 81st minute. Qatar held on to defeat a ten-man Iran and return to the AFC Asian Cup final.

With five goals and three assists at the tournament, Afif leads the field in goal contributions. With two goals in the final, he could also become the Golden Boot winner. Qatar were relatively untested before the Semifinal but they rose to the occasion in front of their home fans. They head into the final with a 5-1-0 record and are unbeaten in their last 13 matches at the AFC Asian Cup.

Match Analysis & Odds

Unsurprisingly, Qatar are favorites for Saturday’s final. The latest Jordan vs. Qatar odds price the hosts at +110. Jordan are used to being underdogs and they’ve scored a tournament-high 13 goals so far. Jordan have scored in eight of their last nine games overall and they won’t sit back here. The Jordan vs Qatar odds price the first-time finalists as +275 underdogs.

Still, Jordan +0.5 does show -130 odds and it wouldn’t be too much of a shock to see this one go into extra time. A draw currently sits at +225 but Jordan are yet to play in an extra time match in the knockout stage. While Akram Afif and Almoez Ali are the two key players to watch on Qatar, Yazan Al-Naimat and Musa Al-Taamari are the danger men for Jordan.

This is an incredibly rare opportunity for Jordan to win silverware and they’ll look to seize the opportunity. Meanwhile, Qatar can join the select group of teams that have won back-to-back AFC Asian Cups. Under two goals show -120 odds in what could be a hotly contested final.
