Servette FC Stats & History
Originally a rugby club, Servette FC were founded as the “Football Club de la Servette” in the Servette neighborhood of Geneva. Servette established their first football team soon after and joined the Swiss Football Association in 1900.
The club won plenty of championships in their early years. The first Swiss championship in the Servette FC team stats was in 1907, and they won seven more times before World War II. They also won their first Swiss Cup in 1928.
Due to Switzerland’s neutral status, the national league continued throughout WWII and Servette won again in 1940. They added another title in 1946 and won their second Swiss Cup in 1949.
The best-ever squad in the Servette team stats was the 1978-79 edition. With dominant midfielders, Umberto Barberis and Claude Andrey, they completed an incredible domestic treble. Servette won the National League A, Swiss Cup and Swiss League Cup. They also reached the quarterfinals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup but lost to Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Relegations and Revival
Until their bankruptcy in 2005, Servette was the only Swiss club to never be relegated from the top flight. Due to the bankruptcy, the Servette Under-21 side took on the club name and started out in the third division. In the 2005–06 season, Servette managed promotion to the second tier Challenge League.
In 2010–11 season, Servette finished 2nd in the Challenge League, and won the promotion playoff to return to the Swiss Super League. However, it didn’t take long for problems to come up. Servette filed for bankruptcy for a second time in February 2012. In March of that year, a group led by Hugh Quennec bought the club. Even through their financial difficulties, Servette managed to finish in fourth place in their first season back in the top flight.
The next season was a disaster, though, as they suffered the first-ever relegation based on performance in the Servette FC team stats
Servette finished in 2nd in the 2014–Challenge League but the Swiss Football League refused to grant Servette a license. So, they played in the third tier Promotion League in 2015-16. The club announced they had new owners: the 1890 Foundation.
Former player Alain Geiger took over as manager in 2018 and achieved promotion to the Swiss Super League in 2019. Since then, results have stabilized and Servette have managed top half finished in the top flight. They finished in second place in 2022-23 and reached the Champions League third qualifying round but lost to Rangers on aggregate.
Servette will play in the Europa League group stage in 2023-24. Bettors should note that this is the first-ever opportunity to bet on Servette’s Europa League odds in the group stage. Betting advice notes that it may be difficult for Servette to advance in a group with Roma, Sheriff Tiraspol and Slavia Prague.
