Fiorentina Unbeaten at Home in Cup Matches

Saturday was an emotional day for Fiorentina, who played their first match since director Giuseppe Barone passed away. Fiorentina got off to a slow start and conceded first versus AC Milan, as Ruben Loftus-Cheek opened up the scoring on a backheel from Rafael Leao.

Alfred Duncan found the net on a long-range effort three minutes later to equalize for the Viola but AC Milan weren’t done yet. Leao scored the winner for AC Milan to add to his assist and Fiorentina fell 2-1. Pietro Terracciano did make some excellent saves in net for the Viola, though.

Fiorentina doesn’t have any players in the top ten in the Serie A stats for goals at the moment. They’ve also scored just twice in two Coppa Italia matches this season. Both of Fiorentina’s victories in the competition have come in penalty shootouts and backup keeper Oliver Christensen was in goal for each.

In the Round of 16, Fiorentina fell behind 2-0 vs Serie B leaders Parma but staged a late comeback as M’Bala Nzola and Riccardo Sottil scored after the 80th minute.

After 30 scoreless minutes of extra time, Fiorentina won 4-1 in penalties. The Viola’s Quarter-Final match vs Bologna finished scoreless and Fiorentina triumphed 5-4 in spot kicks.

Usual Serie A starter Terracciano could be in net here, though, as Christensen is recovering from an injury. Bettors should note that Fiorentina are unbeaten in six home games in cup competitions this season.

Atalanta Back on Track

Atalanta got their first win and clean sheet in seven matches when they beat Napoli 3-0 on the road in Serie A on Saturday. Aleksei Miranchuk struck first on a close-range effort in the 26th minute.

Gianluca Scamacca made the most of just his 11th start of the Serie A campaign and doubled Atalanta’s lead. Teun Koopmeiners scored his 10th goal of 2024 to put Atalanta ahead 3-0 and keep them in the race for Champions League football.

La Dea have been one of the more inconsistent soccer picks recently and they were just on a six-game winless streak. Plus, the versatile Charles De Ketelaere is out with a thigh injury and he scored twice in the 3-1 Coppa Italia Round of 16 victory over Sassuolo.

De Ketelaere is tied for the Coppa Italia lead with three goals. In the Quarter-Final, Atalanta had a difficult road match at AC Milan.

Still, Koopmeiners managed to find the net twice in Atalanta’s 2-1 victory. This is a crucial period for Atalanta, with the Europa League Quarter-Final coming up next week.

La Dea are also seven points behind fourth-placed Bologna in Serie A but does have a game in hand. Aside from De Ketelaere, all of Atalanta’s other players should be available for Wednesday’s match.

Fiorentina vs Atalanta Match Analysis & Odds

A brief look at the Fiorentina vs Atalanta odds is enough to know this one could go either way. Atalanta are quite unpredictable, especially on the road, but they have managed some decent results away from home this season.

They can hang with any Italian team and January’s 2-1 win over AC Milan showed as much. Both Atalanta and Fiorentina show +165 odds to win Wednesday’s match.

With this being a two-legged fixture, even a loss is not the end of the world for either side. Still, don’t expect Fiorentina or Atalanta to take any major tactical risks. A stalemate wouldn’t be a surprise and bettors can back a draw at +230 odds. Both of Fiorentina’s previous Coppa Italia matches have finished all square after 90 minutes.

A look at the goal line shows that Atalanta are ever-so-slight favorites. In this pick’em, Fiorentina pk displays -110 odds and Atalanta pk sits at -115. Both sides have conceded one goal per game so far in the 2023-24 Coppa Italia and both over and under 2.5 goals are priced at -115 odds.

Notably, Fiorentina are unbeaten in their last five Coppa Italia matches in Florence. It remains to be seen if it’ll make a difference, but Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini will serve the first game of a two-match touchline ban here.
