Fresno State Bulldogs Future Odds

New Offensive Playmakers Will Need to Emerge for Fresno State Bulldogs in 2023

Fresno State One of Top Contenders in Mountain West

Jeff Tedford returned to coach Fresno State and led the Bulldogs to their fourth 10-win season in the last six years and once again big things are predicted according to the Fresno State Bulldogs future odds.

Fresno State trails only Boise State in the odds to win the Mountain West title with the Bulldogs coming in at +380 in the conference odds. Will that be how things shake out in the NCAAF standings.

Fresno State won its last nine games during the 2022 season to finish 10-4 and topped Washington State out of the Pac 12 in the LA Bowl to set the stage for the 2023 season.

When looking at the college football betting odds, Fresno State covered in seven of the last nine games in 2022.

Fresno State brought in the third-ranked recruiting class in the Mountain West and also ranked third in the conference in the transfer rankings so that could make the Bulldogs a team in contention once again.

Who Leads the Offense?

Jake Haener is gone after being the starting quarterback for the last three seasons. Logan Fife got into 10 games a season ago. He completed 70% of his passes, but his six interceptions and two touchdown passes are a concern and could have an impact on the Fresno State Bulldogs future odds. The Bulldogs also added former UCF quarterback Mikey Keene.

Most of the receivers are gone with Boston College transfer Jaelen Gill, Toledo receiver Mikel Barkley and other newcomers could contribute immediately.

Top rusher Jordan Mims (1,370 yards, 18 touchdowns) is also gone. Malik Sherrod and Cal transfer Damien Moore are among the options at running back.

Fresno State finished fourth in the Mountain West in total defense a season ago. Can the Bulldogs put up similar numbers in 2023? Levelle Bailey, Malachi Langley and Cam Lockridge are back to lead the defense. When it comes to the NCAAF scores, the Bulldogs allowed fewer than 20 points in seven of the last nine games.

Losing safety Evan Williams to Oregon and defensive lineman Leonard Payne to Colorado hurts a bit. Former USC linebacker Tuasivi Nomura and former Kent State safety Dean Clark are newcomers to watch on defense.

National Championship Odds: Not Going to Happen

Seeing what happened with Cincinnati a couple of years ago gives teams outside the Power-5 conferences some hope to be a factor in the chase for the national title. However, it is hard to see a Mountain West team getting into this year’s College Football Playoff field.

Fresno State is currently at +50000 in the odds to win the national championship. More than 50 teams from Power-5 conferences have better title odds than the Bulldogs.

Conference Odds: Don’t Count Out The Bulldogs

The players and even the coaches change, but Fresno State is usually in contention for the Mountain West title and the Fresno State Bulldogs future odds has the Bulldogs among the top teams in the conference.

Non-conference games against Purdue and Arizona State should prepare the Bulldogs for the Mountain West portion of the NCAAF schedule. The Boise State game is in the first week of November and that could impact the pecking order in the Mountain West.

Regular Season Wins: Eight Is Not Enough

Thanks to facing two teams from Power-5 conferences before Mountain West play gets underway, Fresno State’s expected win total in the regular season is set at eight. The price is at -140 for the Bulldogs to go over that total and +100 to finish under.

Road games against Wyoming and Utah State will not be easy, but based on the track record of this Fresno State program, going over the total is the way to proceed as the Bulldogs go after their third straight season with at least 10 wins.

To Make Playoffs: Wait for Expanded Field

When the playoff field goes from four to 12 teams, there will be a chance for teams like Fresno State to have a chance to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff field.

Even if the Bulldogs go undefeated, it seems unlikely that Fresno State would be one of four teams vying for the national title.

The main goal will be to make a run at the Mountain West championship after winning the title with a 28-16 win over Boise State. Fresno State won the inaugural Mountain West title in 2013 and also won in 2018 while falling in the conference title game in 2014 and 2017.

It all begins with a road game from Purdue out of the Big Ten on September 2 with Purdue being favored by 5.5 points. After the bye week, the final five games all come in the state of California.
