NFL Draft Quarterback Betting News: Could The Top Three Picks In the 2023 Draft Be Quarterbacks?

Houston and Arizona Will Determine How the Top 10 Picks Shake Out in 2023 NFL Draft

Perhaps QBs Will Go No. 1, 2, and 3 for Second Time in Last Three Drafts

The NFL Draft is just a little more interesting when quarterbacks start flying off the board in the early picks. That is expected to happen this year when looking at the NFL Draft quarterback betting news.

There has been some thought about the first four picks being quarterbacks and that would a first in NFL draft history.

If the top three selections are all quarterbacks that is something that also happened in 2021 when Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and Trey Lance were the top picks. The next quarterback selected was Justin Fields with the 11th overall pick. In 1999 (Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb, Akili Smith) and 1971 (Jim Plunkett, Archie Manning, and Dan Pastorini) are the other years when QBs went first second, and third.

The NFL point spreads had -150 odds for the top three picks to be quarterbacks. The odds move to +175 for each of the top four selections to be QBs. That is interesting since the Indianapolis Colts seem likely to grab a quarterback with its top pick.

This would be the fifth time since 2011 when three quarterbacks were selected in the top 10.

The draft begins on Thursday with the first round. Carolina, Houston, and Arizona have the top three selections.

There are just 31 picks after Miami’s lost its first-round selection after violating the NFL’s anti-tampering rules in the quest to land quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Sean Payton. Considering how much time Tua Tagovailoa has spent on the NFL injury report, it would have been interesting to see what would have happened had Miami picked 21st overall in the draft.

Here is a look at how things might shake out regarding the quarterbacks early in the draft.

Panthers Eyeing Franchise QB

Cam Newton led Carolina to four playoff appearances in five seasons and including one Super Bowl appearance after being picked first overall in 2011.

It is looking more and more like Alabama’s Bryce Young will become the next quarterback of the future for the Panthers, according to the NFL Draft quarterback betting news.

There was a time when Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud was leading the odds to be the top pick. Now the price is set at -1600 to be the No. 1 overall selection.

Carolina is going all in to address the quarterback position, surrendering four draft picks (including two first-rounders) and receiver D.J. Moore.

Levis to Houston?

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Penn State quarterback Will Levis is surging up the draft board and he is now an NFL Draft quarterback betting news has him coming in at -145 to be the No. 2 overall selection.

That would be quite the move for Houston with some considering Levis as the fourth-best quarterback available in the draft. Levis had five touchdown passes and six interceptions in his five games against ranked teams in his two seasons at Kentucky. Levis certainly has the size and arm strength to be a top pick.

The Texans also have the 12th overall pick and there is a chance that Houston could address the quarterback position later in the first round. If that is the case, a pass rusher like Tyree Wilson or Will Anderson is an option. Wilson has the second-best odds to go second with a price of +225 with Anderson falling back to fourth at +450.

Stroud (+375) put up incredible numbers at Ohio State. However, his draft stock seems to be slipping.

Houston could always look to build around Davis Mills. Mills was much better as a rookie than he was in his second season when had 16 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions.

Moving On Up?

It seems safe to project the Arizona Cardinals not to pick a quarterback with their top selection. That doesn’t mean that a QB can’t be picked with the third overall pick.

While one of the hottest rumors is that a team might trade into the No. 3 spot in order to pick the top offensive lineman. The odds aren’t really reflecting that as Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. (+2800) is tied for seventh in the odds to be the third overall pick.

Stroud is tied with Texas Tech‘s Wilson at +225 to be the pick at No. 3. If Arizona keeps the pick, Wilson makes a ton of sense. If a team like the Las Vegas Raiders tries to move up, Stroud could easily go there.

Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson (+350) is tied with Anderson in the odds to be third off the board and he is the type of player who could be on top of some team’s draft boards and outside the top 10 in others.

The Indianapolis Colts have the fourth overall pick and the three players with top odds are all quarterbacks. Levis (even) leads the way and he is followed by Stroud (+200) and Richardson (+350). The Colts and Raiders are tied at +350 to have the best odds to land Richardson.

Another quarterback to keep an eye on is Tennessee‘s Hendon Hooker. Minnesota is priced at +320 to pick Hooker. The Vikings have the 23rd overall pick.
