NFL Week One: Titans vs Saints Betting Preview

Tennessee 19-14-1 ATS Last Two Seasons, New Orleans 7-10 ATS in 2022

The Tennessee Titans (0-0) head to New Orleans, Louisiana to take on the Saints (0-0) in week one action of the 2023 NFL season. Neither team made the postseason in 2022 when both finished with a 7-10 straight-up record in the final NFL standings.

NFL odds show New Orleans as a 3-point home favorite (-115) after opening at 3.5, the total has been bet down to 41.5 from 42. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm ET / 10:00 am PT and can be seen on Fox Sports. We start our Titans vs Saints betting preview with a look at Tennessee from a betting perspective.

Nothing Should Change For The Titans

When you have a running back that was 63 yards away from 5-straight 1,000-yard seasons, not much should change from the Tennessee offense. Derrick Henry rushed for over 1,500 yards, proving why he’s at least a top-three back in the league. NFL predictions are difficult, knowing that the Titans will lean on Henry is not. The Titans are deep at quarterback with Ryan Tannehill getting the start, but this season there are a couple of insurance policies with Malik Willis and rookie Will Levis.

Against the number, the Titans are 11-6-1 ATS as an underdog over the last two seasons and 7-4-1 ATS as a road dog. As an underdog on the road against teams under .500, the Titans have covered in both instances. Tennessee is 19-14-1 ATS against teams that have won 7 or more games in the previous season. Every number we look at shows the Titans to be the side we’re leaning toward early on, but let’s continue our Titans vs Saints betting preview by turning our attention to New Orleans.

New Orleans to Lean On Derek Carr

With Alvin Kamara suspended for the first three games of the season, there is no doubt that newly acquired quarterback Derek Carr will shoulder the load to start the new season. The Saints finished 22nd in the NFL averaging just 19.4 points per game. New Orleans won three of their last four games, including a 20-10 win at Philadelphia.

The Saints do have some injury concerns heading into week one. Without Kamara, New Orleans would like to see plenty from rookie running back Kendre Miller, but the 3rd round selection is dealing with a hamstring injury and has not practiced. With Miller and Kamara the Saints will rely on Jamaal Williams and fullback Adam Prentice. Williams is in his seventh season and rushed for over 1,000 yards for the Detroit Lions last season, including a career-high 17 touchdowns.

Over the last three seasons, the Saints are an even 25-25 ATS (14-14 as a favorite). At the Superdome is where bettors have been burned with New Orleans failing to cover 14 of their last 23. We conclude our Titans vs Saints betting preview with our official selection.

Betting Public All-In With Tennessee

As we look at the early betting trends, there isn’t one game that features betting patterns more one-sided than this match-up. Over 93% of the money coming in is on Tennessee, the next closest is 86% on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both the pros and Joes are on the same side with 60% of all tickets written on the Titans as well.

We’re always a little worried when we’re on the same side as the public because it’s been five straight seasons since the public produced a profit against the books, producing a 610-640 (.488) record in that span. However, a fun fact, when the betting public is on a team with 80% or more of the money, it’s the public that has produced a 13-9-1 ATS mark.

We’re jumping in the deep end with everyone else, bet the Titans plus the field goal. That does it for our Titans vs Saints Betting preview, we wish you all the best with your wagers this weekend.
