MMA Awards betting odds have been released for many categories, including Best Male and Female Fighter.
The MMA schedule covers not only the UFC but every mixed martial arts organization, and the best have been nominated for September’s awards show.
We look where bettors can find the best MMA odds, including Fight of the Year and Breakthrough Fighter of the Year.
Makhachev Seeking Two Wins
Islam Makhachev is a leading chance to win two titles. The rampaging fighter is the current -165 favorite with MMA Awards betting odds to win Male Fighter of the Year, and he looks home, James.
He is the current lightweight champion following an epic fight against Alexander Volkanovski, who was rising in weight class to face the Russian.
The five-round gutbuster is also why Makhachev and Volkanovski are the favorites to win Fight of the Year. They are -260 favorites, and with Makhachev favored to win Male Fighter of the Year, we think he locks up both awards.
He’s riding a 12-fight win streak, so we don’t see how any other fighter takes the title away from him. The next best fighter on the list is Leon Edwards at +200, and he’s a solid choice, but Makhachev has had the more impressive 2023.
According to the latest MMA news, his coach believes a rematch could be on the cards.
“Well, because there’s still unfinished business with Alex in my mind. There’s still unfinished business. There’s no clarity. In our eyes, it was clear, but there was just too much uncertainty. On top of that, I hate to say it but that fight delivered. It was supposed to be one of the great fights between two greats, and it turned out to be exactly that,” Javier Mendez said.
No Fears with Nunes
Given her retirement, we don’t see a way of Amanda Nunes not winning Female Fighter of the Year with MMA Awards betting odds.
The greatest female fighter of all time announced her retirement in 2023 after devastating form, and although she went out on top, she was happy with her decision.
The Brazillian is a -165 favorite to win the award, and we expect her to win comfortably.
Alexa Grasso is on the second line of betting at +225, but there isn’t a comparison given their respective achievements inside the UFC Octagon.
Pereira’s The Rising Star
Alex Pereira is a two-time UFC champion after beating Israel Adesanya in 2022 for the middleweight champion and then Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight title in July.
Winning two different titles in a three-fight span is enough to give the Brazil native the Breakthrough Fighter of the Year title.
He might have lost the middleweight title to Adesanya in the rematch, but he caused a huge impressive in the UFC, so the +125 odds are worth taking.
Ilia Topuria, who also had a big year, is on the second line of betting. However, he didn’t win two titles, so take Pereira to take home the award.
The KO Heard Around the World
Leon Edwards’ late knockout of Kamaru Usman is easily the best knockout we have seen over the last year.
MMA Awards betting odds have that fight at +125 to win KO of the Year, which is only narrowly ahead of Adesanya’s knockout of Pereira, but there was more shock with Edwards.
He wasn’t expected to win, and he was clearly losing the fight on points. All Usman had to do was see out the round, but Edwards landed a perfect head kick behind the ear, and it was lights out for the champion.
