MLB Weekend Recap: Home Underdogs Have Decent Weekend
Marlins Earn Road Sweep of Angels

The MLB Weekend Recap shows it was a decent weekend to back home underdogs. Home pups went 4-3 straight-up, good for a flat-bet profit of $200 and a 28.4% ROI. Home underdogs are still a losing proposition on the season, going 116-155 for a flat-bet loss of $1,302.
Totals went 16-14 on Saturday and Sunday. Home teams were 16-14 over the weekend, which is pretty much in line with how they’ve performed all year.
Saturday Games
Yankees Edge Padres in Pitching Duel
San Diego’s Michael Wacha continued with his solid May, but Luis Severino matched him pitch-for-pitch Saturday. Both starters went seven innings and allowed two runs. But a Isiah Kiner-Falefa single in the 10th gave the Yankees the win. For May, Wacha allowed three runs in five starts. He pitched 32 innings, allowed 16 hits and fanned 26 batters. He lowered his ERA from 6.75 to 3.45.
Wheeler Dominates Atlanta
Zack Wheeler turned in an impressive performance to help the Phillies beat Atlanta 2-1. Wheeler pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, while striking out 12. Philadelphia was a small underdog to Charlie Morton and the Braves.
Castillo Baffles Pittsburgh
Seattle’s Luis Castillo turned in his best effort of the MLB season Saturday, allowing one hit over six innings. Castillo walked two and struck out 10, as Seattle cruised to a 5-0 victory over Pittsburgh.
Verlander Roughed Up by Rockies
The New York Mets’ Justin Verlander had a rough start in Colorado. The Rockies roughed him up for nine hits and six runs in five innings in their 10-7 victory.
A five-run outburst in the top of the sixth prevented Verlander from taking the loss. It was the second time in three starts Verlander allowed six runs in a start.
Ohtani Solid, But Marlins Win
The MLB Weekend Recap shows another solid start for Shohei Ohtani, but the Miami Marlins won in extra innings.
Ohtani pitched six innings, allowing two runs and fanning 10 batters. Miami scored four runs in the top of the 10th and won 8-5 on the way to a sweep of the Angels.
Sunday Games
Rays Edge Dodgers in Slugfest
One of the easiest overs so far this season was in Tampa on Sunday. With a total of 9.5, the Rays led 7-3 after two innings and posted an 11-10 victory.
Isaac Paredes drove in four runs for Tampa. Jason Adam earned the save with two scoreless innings.
Yankees Pound Darvish
The MLB Weekend Recap shows Yu Darvish with his worst start of the year. The Yankees scored seven runs in 2 2/3 innings against Darvish on the way to a 10-7 victory. New York led 8-3 after three innings.
Guardians Rally Past Cardinals
A two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the ninth by Jose Ramirez sent Cleveland to a 4-3 win over St. Louis. The hit allowed Cleveland to overcome three St. Louis solo home runs in the top of the fifth off Hunter Gaddis.
Brewers Hold Off San Francisco
The Milwaukee Brewers did all their damage in the first two innings in a 7-5 win over the Giants. The Brewers led 7-0 after two innings but didn’t score again.
The Giants chipped away at the lead and made it a 7-5 game in the seventh. But Devin Williams got the final four outs to preserve the game for Milwaukee.
Rockies Edge Mets
The MLB scores show Colorado with an 11-10 victory over the Mets, making it one of two 11-10 games on Sunday.
Ryan McMahon drove in a game-high five runs for Colorado, which led 11-7 entering the ninth inning. A Tommy Pham triple made it 11-9 and he scored on a ground ball to bring the Mets within one. But Justin Lawrence got the final out for the Rockies on the mound.
Atlanta Scores Early and Often
Anybody who settled in for the Sunday Night Baseball game probably turned it off pretty quickly. Atlanta got to Philadelphia starter Dylan Covey for seven runs in the first inning and cruised to an 11-4 win.
Covey has been an automatic “bet against” pitcher since he entered MLB. In his 46 career starts, his teams are 12-34. He has a lifetime 6-30 record and an ERA of 6.60.
