NL Showdown: Brewers vs Dodgers Betting Preview

Milwaukee 29-23 in Last 52 Road Games, Dodgers 32-14 at Home

Two of baseball’s best teams in the National League square off at Chavez Ravine, Tuesday, when the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers (65-54) clash with the Los Angeles Dodgers (71-46) who led the NL West. The Brew Crew will send Adrian Houser (4-3, 4.38) to the hill against Bobby Miller (6-2, 3.89) for LA. The bookmakers have made the Dodgers a -225 favorite, with a total of 9 (-115 under). The first pitch is set for 10:10 pm ET, 7:10 pm PT. Let’s start our Brewers vs Dodgers preview with a dive into the Milwaukee Brewers.

Brewers Start Three Straight Series Against Division Leaders

At the end of August, we will have an idea of how serious we should take Milwaukee, with series against the Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, San Diego Padres, and the 2nd-place Chicago Cubs. Every team is a division leader or in the thick of the playoff race.

Starting off the gauntlet is a trip to Los Angeles after completing a three-game road sweep against the Chicago White Sox. Shaky Adrian Houser gets the start after a no-decision against the Colorado Rockies after giving up four runs in five innings. It’s his third straight start when the righty rotated quality starts, making him unreliable to bettors of late.

Milwaukee is 9-5 when Houser starts, 36-25 (+716 units) since 2021. This season, the Brewers profited 464 units for bettors after a 2022 season that saw them finish at -1598 units, quite the turnaround this MLB season. Let’s continue our Brewers vs Dodgers preview by turning our attention to Los Angeles.

Dodgers Can Soon Talk About Magic Numbers

It’s safe to say that the Los Angeles Dodgers will win their 21st division title since 1974, and the 10th in the last 11 seasons. LA leads the National League West by nine games with 45 games left. They may have their division wrapped up but there is still the best record in the National League to play for, with the Dodgers trailing the Atlanta Braves by 4.5 games.

Los Angeles has finally climbed over the break-even point for the betting public with 239 units won in 2023. Since 2019, the Dodgers have had one losing season for bettors and that was a small 63 units loss in 2021. No team has enjoyed a better second half after winning 20 of their last 28 games. The Colorado Rockies aren’t the usual measuring stick, but it was the manner in which Los Angeles swept their four-game series, outscoring the Rockies 20-6 over the weekend.

Bobby Miller gets the start tonight as the Dodgers continue to find impactful rookies. In his last five starts, Miller has pitched well enough to win every start, even though the Dodgers are just 3-2 in that span. It’s his last two starts against Arizona and San Diego that have the LA faithful excited about what the 24-year-old can do to solidify their rotation in the postseason. Over Miller’s last 9 ⅔ innings, the former Louisville Cardinal has allowed just one earned run while striking out seven.

For bettors, Miller has been the most profitable starter, earning the public 267 units, with LA winning nine of his 13 total starts. The most obvious MLB prediction is the Dodgers winning the division, but the development of Miller will likely tell how deep Los Angeles will go in the postseason. We conclude our Brewers vs Dodgers preview with our official selection.

Expect Quality Starts From Both Starters

With the total set at 9 (under -115), bettors have been conflicted in the early going with just 52% of the early money coming in on the under.

That creates an interesting betting pattern with the total number of tickets on the over (77%) for Brewers vs Dodgers. This means the professionals are on the under, while the squares are betting over the total. We think the pros are on the right side here.

Neither one of these MLB teams has found themselves on top of the Major League Baseball standings because they’ve had tremendous pitching all season, but this is the time of year when the big boys start tightening up pitching staffs, and because the game means more, the scores tend to be lower with managers managing their pitching like it was the playoffs.

Our official Brewers vs Dodgers preview prediction is to push your money behind the under in game one. All the best with your wagers this week.
