Frosinone Team Stats History
Frosinone Calcio, or simply Frosinone, is based in Frosinone, Lazio. Established in 1906 as Unione Sportive Frusinate, the club has spent most of its existence in the lower leagues. Frosinone joined the Italian Football Federation in 1928, and the club disappeared with the onset of World War II.
The club returned post-war and played in regional leagues. However, at various points in their history, Frosinone disbanded and formed again. In 1990, the Italian Football Federation removed Frosinone due to bankruptcy. Thus, the club was reborn as Frosninone Calcio and started participating in the fifth tier of Italian soccer.
Finally, Frosinone returned to the third tier following the 2003-04 season. In their first season back in Serie C1, Frosinone finished fifth and made the promotion playoffs but lost out to Mantova. In 2005-06, they sealed the first-ever promotion to Serie B in the Frosinone team stats. After finishing in second place, Frosinone knocked out Sangiovannese and Grosseto. However, they were back in the third tier by 2011.
Frosinone’s Decade: Challenges, and a Return to Serie A Triumph
The 2010s were a significant period for Frosinone Calcio, though. Under coach Roberto Stellone, the club achieved promotion to Serie B for the 2014-2015 season. They managed back-to-back promotions and clinched the first berth in Serie A in the Frosinone team stats. Despite the excitement surrounding Frosinone’s first top-tier season, they finished in 19th place and went back down to Serie B.
It didn’t take too long for Frosinone to return to Serie A season. In 2018, they defeated Palermo in the promotion playoff final. However, in the second-ever Serie A season in the Frosinone Calcio team stats, they also finished in 19th place. In the 2022-23 Serie B season, under Italian national team legend Fabio Grosso, Frosinone had the best defensive record in the league. They also scored the most goals in the league as they won Serie B for the first time and returned to Serie A after four years away.
Betting advice tends to suggest that Frosinone’s potential in the 2023-24 Serie A season is limited. However, their new manager does have Serie A experience. Grosso’s contract ran out at the end of the 2023 season and Frosinone replaced him with Eusebio di Francesco, who led Roma to the 2018 Champions League semifinal. Frosinone have never finished above the relegation zone in the top flight, and the 2023-24 Serie A odds price them at +50000 to make the top four.
