Buffalo Bulls 2023 Future Odds

Buffalo's Looking For Consistency in Maurice Linguist's Third Season As Head Coach

The Buffalo Bulls will enter the 2023 season after finishing 7-6 overall. The Bulls went 5-3 in the MAC and won a bowl game over Georgia Southern in the Camellia Bowl.

The Bulls began last year 0-3, but under Maurice Linguist, Buffalo kept fighting and eventually put together a solid season. Expectations are slightly higher after the previous year under Linguist, who will be coaching his third season in Buffalo.

Let’s look at the Buffalo Bulls future odds for this upcoming season in the MAC.

Turnover Margin

Last year, the Buffalo Bulls were among the best teams in the turnover margin category. In the NCAAF rankings, the Bulls were 13th in the entire nation in turnover margin. In 13 NCAA football games, the Bulls added 28 turnovers on defense and only gave the ball away 18 times. They averaged nearly one more turnover than their opponent per game.

Buffalo recorded 15 fumble recoveries and 13 interceptions, with a margin of 10 and an average of .77 more turnovers per game.

Winning The Red Zone Battle

In 2022, Buffalo scored a touchdown and field goal on over 90% of their possessions in the red zone. If the Bulls can carry over that success into this year, the Bulls will be in great shape and likely cash in on all of the overs for the Buffalo Bulls future odds.

The Bulls will return veteran quarterback Cole Snyder. He threw for over 3,000 yards and added 18 touchdowns with eight interceptions. Before Buffalo, Snyder was in the Big Ten with Rutgers, so he understands how to prepare at a high level.

The offense will also have Ron Cook back in the running back rotation. Cook got hurt late last year and was replaced by Mike Washington, who was solid in Cook’s absence.

Buffalo’s Pass Rush

The pass rush for Buffalo had some success throughout the season. But I’d like to see more consistency in this group. The Bulls earned a sack in 6.54% of place last season, 68th best in college football. With Daymond Williams still on the roster, Buffalo should be able to improve their defensive rush. He’s an All-MAC defensive tackle for the Bulls.

National Championship Odds: Buffalo Bulls

To win the National Championship, you have to practically go undefeated. Buffalo plays Wisconsin in their first game of the season on the road. They’ll be more than 24-point underdogs in that game. They’ve also got Liberty on their non-conference schedule. Those will likely be two losses for Buffalo in the season’s first three weeks. Don’t even think about betting any Buffalo Bulls future odds, including a championship!

Conference Odds: Buffalo Could Compete for the MAC

The Buffalo Bulls are listed at +250 to win the MAC East division. In the MAC East are Ohio (+120), Miami OH (+360), Bowling Green (+800), Akron (+1400), and Kent State (+6000).

Buffalo is going to battle against Ohio for that East Division win. Whoever ends up winning the East will more than likely face Toledo in the West.

Buffalo lost to Ohio, 45-24 on the road last year, but beat Toledo, 34-17. The Bulls also had an embarrassing loss to Kent State in overtime at home. But confidence is still likely high after their bowl win against Georgia Southern.

Regular Season Wins: Are Seven Wins Too Many?

The oddsmakers have the Buffalo Bulls at 6.5 wins this season. Let’s go through the schedule.

Buffalo will more than likely lose their first game against Wisconsin. They’ll then take on Fordham at home. That should be a win.

At 1-1, the Bulls have a game against Liberty at home. That’s a toss-up right now. Liberty hasn’t announced a quarterback but is projected to win eight games this season. I want to think Liberty has more talent than Buffalo heading into the season.

At 1-2, Buffalo will face Louisiana, who won six games last year. The Ragin’ Cajuns are also projected to win 6.5 games this season. At home, Louisiana probably has the edge.

Buffalo would be 1-3 heading into conference play. Wins against Akron, Bowling Green, and Kent State are likely. The toss-up games in conference play include Ohio, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, and Miami OH.

The Bulls must earn three wins against Ohio, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, and Miami OH. Two of those four games are at home, and two are on the road.

I’ve got Buffalo earning six wins this season and would suggest the Under 6.5 at -125 for the Buffalo Bulls future odds in regular season wins.

But hey! That’s still a bowl game for Buffalo!
