NFL Point Spreads Week 5: Bettors Fading Giants and Patriots

Giants (0-4 ATS) Shaping Up as Biggest Underdog

Can it get any worse for the New York Giants? After a surprising run to the NFC playoffs last year, New York has crashed back to Earth to start this NFL season. The Giants are 1-3, including an NFL-worst 0-4 against the spread.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

Things don’t expect to get any easier in Week 5, with a trip to Miami on tap. The Dolphins (3-1) are the NFL’s highest scoring team.

With that in mind we break down some of the biggest movers ahead of Sunday. Let’s dive into the NFL point spreads Week 5.

Day/Time:
Opening Line: Dolphins -8.5
Current Line: Dolphins -12

The Giants’ futility is reaching new heights. Big Blue has now been outscored 77-9 in the first half this season. Their minus-68 point differential in the first half is tied for the fourth worst for a team through four NFL games in the Super Bowl era.

Making matters worse, New York is still dealing with injuries to multiple starters on its ragtag offensive line, a week after Daniel Jones was sacked 11 times. Neither All Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas nor rookie center John Michael Schmitz are expected to play Sunday. That doesn’t leave much hope for the Giants.

It’s no wonder the Dolphins are now the biggest favorite on the board.

Texans logo Houston Texans at Atlanta Falcons Falcons logo

Day/Time:
Opening Line: Texans +4.5
Current Line: Texans +1.5

Houston is coming off a 30-6 rout of Pittsburgh, its largest win in six years. C.J. Stroud built on his strong start, throwing for 306 yards and two touchdowns. Stroud, the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft, is the first rookie since the merger with 250 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in three straight games.

Atlanta, meanwhile, has scored just 13 points over the last two weeks. The lack of offense has prompted questions about Desmond Ridder’s future at quarterback.

Clearly, bettors are starting to have more faith in the Texans.

Ravens logo Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers Steelers logo

Day/Time:
Opening Line: Steelers +1.5
Current Line: Steelers +4.5

Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett injured his knee in the blowout loss to Houston. While he may play, his mobility could be impacted. That NFL injury is enough to give some bettors pause.

Saints logo New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots Patriots logo

Day/Time:
Opening Line: Patriots -1.5
Current Line: Patriots EV

The Patriots are ravaged by injuries to edge rusher Matthew Judon (torn biceps) and rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez (torn labrum). On top of that, Mac Jones has yet to prove he’s the answer at quarterback.

Oddsmakers have adjusted, dropping the Patriots from 1.5-point favorites to even money (-110) per NFL scores and odds.

Bengals logo Cincinnati Bengals at Arizona Cardinals Cardinals logo

Day/Time:
Opening Line: Bengals -9.5
Current Line: Bengals -3

The Cardinals were supposed to be in the NFL basement, but they’ve been better than expected. Meanwhile, the Bengals, a preseason Super Bowl contender, are reeling after a 1-3 start. Their offense ranks last in the NFL (236 yards per game), making them hard to trust.

This is the biggest shift on the board, according to NFL point spreads Week 5.
