NFL Week 14 Betting: Can Unders Bounce Back

Week 13 Was Highest-Scoring Week This Season

There were plenty of points scored in Week 13 of the NFL season, with overs having a strong 9-4 week. Unders still lead the way with a 108-82-3 mark this season. But overs have made a bit of a comeback the past few weeks. The late afternoon games all went over for the second straight week. But now it’s time to turn the attention to NFL Week 14 betting with a look at the games from a totals perspective.

Both teams come into this game off bye weeks. The big question for the Vikings was who would be starting at quarterback and that was answered Wednesday when the team announced Joshua Dobbs would start against the Raiders. Las Vegas is starting Aidan O’Connell at quarterback.

The Vikings have lost two straight games to fall to 6-6 and simply can’t afford another loss if they want to stay in the NFL playoff hunt. Minnesota plays Detroit twice in the final few weeks of the season, so it needs to stay within striking distance of the Lions.

This is a game they need to win. The rushing game has come to life a little bit recently, although the Vikings abandoned the run last game against Chicago. Minnesota rushed 17 times for 73 yards, but were done in by the four interceptions Dobbs threw.

The Vikings should get Justin Jefferson back for this game and he’ll help take pressure off the quarterback. The Raiders aren’t particularly strong against the run, so the Vikings may run the ball more.

Minnesota’s defense hasn’t been bad. The rushing defense is No. 7 in the NFL team rankings, allowing 96 yards per game. The pass defense, which was the sore spot of the defense last season, is playing a little better. But it’s still the weak link of the Minnesota defense.

Raiders Offense Not Getting Untracked

The Raiders are averaging 16.8 points per game and the rushing attack isn’t getting it done. O’Connell, who the Raiders drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft, is going through some growing pains. He’s thrown four TD passes and been intercepted six times.

Las Vegas is just averaging 82.7 rushing yards per game. That puts too much pressure on the quarterback and O’Connell isn’t there yet. His numbers would look better with a better running attack behind him.

Las Vegas hasn’t been bad defensively, allowing 21.3 points per game. The team is pretty average against the run and the pass. There are no real strengths, but no real weaknesses, either.

So far, the Vikings are 3-8-1 in totals and the Raiders are 3-9. Games where both NFL teams are coming off a bye week are on a 2-15 totals run. So take the under 40.5 in this spot for one of your NFL Week 14 betting plays.

Day/Time:
Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, N.J.
Lines: Green Bay -7 (Even)
Total: 36
Streaming: ABC

There are two Monday night games this week and this is probably the worst of the two. The Green Bay Packers (6-6) are coming off their best game of the year against Kansas City. The New York Giants (4-8) have won two games in a row. But all New York is doing is hurting itself in the draft.

The Packers are averaging 21.5 points per game and have scored at least 23 points each game in their three-game winning streak. Green Bay is rushing for 104.9 yards per game and throwing 224.7 yards.

The Packers are pretty much an average offensive team, rushing for 4.2 yards per carry against teams that allows 4.2 yards. Green Bay averages 6.6 yards per pass attempt against teams allowing 6.6 yards per attempt.

On defense, Green Bay is a little better than average, allowing 20.3 points per game. The Packers are slightly better against the pass than the run.

Giants Struggling to Score

The Giants are dreadful on offense, averaging 13.3 points per game. New York has scored more than 17 points twice all season and has been held to 10 points or less on six occasions. The offense is the primary reason the Giants are 4-7-1 against the NFL betting lines and 3-9 in totals.

The defense is playing pretty well, considering how bad the offense is. New York is allowing 24.3 points per game and 364.3 total yards per game. The Giants are a little soft against the run, something Green Bay could look to take advantage of.

The total is low here, but those games that have had a total of 38 or less have gone 6-17-1 in totals this NFL season and 14-29-1 the past two seasons. Take the under 36 for another of your NFL Week 14 betting plays.
