Wednesday’s MLB Recap; Twins, Rays, Mets Pummel Books

11 of 14 to The Players, Totals Split

Our MLB Wednesday Results breakdown shows yet another winning night for the players after 11 of 14 results were on the side of the player, winning 730 units. The San Francisco Giants‘ 5-2 win over the Marlins each drew approximately 50% of the moneyline action.

That game was eliminated from the equation. Overall the betting public is still down for the year (-524 units) even though they’ve won 59% of the game where the money wagered was more than 50.1%. Let’s continue our MLB Wednesday Results by diving into a couple of key games followed by our betting breakdown of the season to date.

Twins Put Holes In Sox, Massive Public Win

The betting public was able to rest easy for much of this game after the Twins put up three runs in the first innings and four more in the third off veteran Red Sox starter Corey Kluber who dropped to 0-4 on the season. The 37-year-old pitcher has an era of 8.50 era in four starts.

Of all MLB players, the 13-year pitcher is a definite go-against early on, and that is exactly what the betting public did with 96% of the money coming in on the Twins moneyline. This game was the heaviest bet game on the board with 55,232 wagers coming from the various books we monitor. The Twins (11-7) are now +200 units on the year (9th), while the Sox (9-10) are -272 units 916th).

Bettors Undecided On ‘Stros and Jays, Most Took Insurance

One of the more attractive match-ups on the Wednesday card had the defending champions hosting the Toronto Blue Jays who have their own championship aspirations. With 49,907 wagers, it was the second most heavily bet game on the board.

With Jose Berrios (1-3, 6.23) and Luis Garcia (1-2, 5.14 era) getting the start, bettors decided that they need some of the run-line for extra insurance. That proved to be a smart choice after the Blue Jays dismantled Houston, 8-1, behind seven strong innings from Garcia.

You could tell how torn the ‘pros’ were with just 55% of the moneyline money coming in on Houston, while the ‘Joes’ sided with Toronto (54% of the overall tickets), making for an interesting split on the betting. 69% of the run-line wagers were on the Astros who were receiving a rare +1.5 (-175) at home. Toronto (11-8) has crawled into the black with +24 units won on the season (14th), and Houston (9-10) is still in the red with -380 units lost (20th).

Since 2005, The Cardinals Have Been Best-Bet

Once in a while, we like to get crazy and dip away from the typical look at to MLB schedule before us and look at historical results. After the St. Louis Cardinals’ 14-5 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks, it got us thinking about which franchises are the most consistent teams to wager on through the years.

Since our database goes back to 2005, that’s where our numbers will go back to. It’s a little strange to look at the top three teams and wonder how two of them got there because they’ve had such little recent success. Coming in at number three is the Texas Rangers who are 1405-1428 (49.6%) but they’ve won enough as a dog in that time to produce 1085 units of profit.

The Rangers’ bankroll was bolstered by the 2015 and 2016 seasons which produced a combined 5,511 units behind a record of 183-141. Unfortunately, Texas has not produced a winning season for bettors since 2019. Coming in second is the Oakland Athletics with a record of 1430-1399 (.506) +1620 units. In 2018-19, Oakland was 193-129, good for a profit of 4,672 units.

The Athletics, who seem to be on the fast track to Vegas after yesterday’s land deal, look like they are on their way to a third straight losing season for bettors. Taking the top spot is the St. Louis Cardinals with a 1560-1268 overall record (.552) with 2,864 units won on straight $100 wagers since 2005.

The Redbirds are on a five streak of profitable seasons. That may be in jeopardy in 2023 with the Cards down 552 units to start the year. That concludes our MLB Wednesday Results, in case you’re wondering who the worst teams are since 2005, we’ll leave you with the Chicago Cubs (-11,301 units), Pittsburgh Pirates (-11,507), and the Cincinnati Reds (-13,287).
